Brushing - the BEST everyday care for a dog's coat

All dogs shed hair.
Some more, some less.

The most effective way to
take care of your dog's coat
is to brush it. Down to the skin.

Brushing (or combing) is the
ONLY
way to prevent matts

It also rids the coat of loose, dead hair which can make it appear dull and lifeless.

  • use the right tool/s
  • remove as much loose,
                                                                    dead hair as possible

#Tangles, Knots & Matting = A Neglected Coat
Even if you brush your dog's coat daily, the hair can still tangle. This is a consequence of the natural shedding process as well as other factors - like your dog's lifestyle and living conditions.

Silky coats, long & double coats, and so-called "non-shedding coats"
(found in woolly, curly & corded coated breeds)
 are particularly prone to knots.

A neglected, knotted coat will form matts

If left untreated matts felt
.

If you can't get a comb through every part of the coat, its matted.

Matting can significantly affect an animal's health and welfare.
If your pet's coat is difficult to maintain -
keep it in a short trim.
At the pampered pooch,  severe matting is dealt with humanely.
In extreme cases it entails clipping the coat down
and allowing it to re-grow.

(Any humane de-matting will be undertaken solely at my discretion, in compliance with The Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. De-matting during a routine groom is limited to a maximum of 15 minutes.)
